English Groomers Challenge 2019

A grooming competition all about having fun and learning.  All competitors receive a certificate of participation and a competitor's rosette.  They also receive a great goodie bag!  Now in its 12th year, it is undoubtedly the best show for people starting to compete.

We have a theme this year!  
All about the canine heads and tails!  Talks and demonstrations throughout the day.
Heads and tails groomed on a variety of breeds.  8 breeds already booked and more too confirm.

CHALLENGE:  LEVELS AND JUDGES

Class classifications are as follows:
For previous competitors that have been placed, it is possible for you to be in two different categories.  For example, if you have won in a poodle class at Experienced level, you will need to enter in Advanced BUT if you have another breed of dog that you have never competed with before or haven't been placed with, you will be eligible for the Experienced category with that dog provided you fulfil that criteria.

JUNIORS:

  • One class
  • Competitors must be under 16 years old to enter
  • One dog, any breed or cross breed, any trim or technique may be used
  • Dogs under 15" 2 hours, Dogs over 15" 2.5 hours
  • Not eligible for Best in Show

NEWCOMER:  

  • Under 1 years experience including training
  • May have been placed before but  not 1st in an equivalent class (Does not include Rookie Challenge placements)
  • No breed/exhibitor specialists

INTERMEDIATE:  

  •  Under 3 years experience including training
  • May have been placed before but not 1st in an equivalent class (Does not include Rookie Challenge placements)
  • No breed/exhibitor specialists

EXPERIENCED:  

  • Over 3 years experience including training (unless won out of previous classes)
  • May have been placed before but not 1st in equivalent class (Does not include Rookie Challenge placements)
  • No breed/exhibitor specialists 

ADVANCED:  

  • Over 3 years experience including training (unless won out of previous classes)
  • May have been placed 1st in equivalent classes
  • Breed/show specialists allowed

MORNING CLASSES:


Poodle/Bichon:
 For Poodles and Bichons regardless of trim (other than Asian style).  Scissors, clippers and comb attachments may be used.  Poodles' face, feet and tail are to be clipped before entering the ring.  Ear clipping must be done in the ring.  Any trim will be accepted.  All sizes of Poodle are accepted.  Under 15" have 2 hours and over 15" have 2.5 hours.  Poodles with sprayed up topknots have an extra 15 minutes.

Real Life Mixed Breed:  For all mixed breed dogs not in Asian Style.  Scissors, clippers and comb attachments may be used.  Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours. 

Real Life Pure Breed:  For all pure breeds that are not covered in others classes and not in Asian style.  Scissrs, clippers and comb attachments may be used.   Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours.

Juniors:  As detailed above

AFTERNOON CLASSES:

Terrior/Schnauzer:  For all Terriers including Bedlington, Kerry Blue, Westie, Schnauzer etc. regardless of trim except Asian style.  Handstripping, scissoring, clippers and comb attachments may be used.   Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours.  All Handstripped dogs have 2.5 hours

Gundog:  For all Gundog breeds regardless of trim except Asian style.  Hand stripping, scissoring, clippers and comb attachments may be used.   Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours.

Asian:  For any breed or cross breed trimmed in Asian Style.  This means any interpretation of thsi style so it is up to the individual's flair and skill and down to the judge's preference.  Exaggerated features are usually required.  Minimal colour permitted (please adhere to the rules in the creative section on colouring).  Coat dressings and accessories are allowed but must be applied during the class.   Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours.  Winners not eligible for Best in Show.

CREATIVE STYLIST OF THE YEAR:  

  • Unleash your Creative skills.  This can be an individual or a team effort.
  • Open Creative Class:  Groomers who have been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a Creative class previously.
  • Novice Creative Class:  For those who have never placed in a Creative class.
  •  Dogs under 15" have 2 hours and dogs over 15" have 2.5 hours.
  • All Creative competitors will have 15 minutes at the end of the class to dress their tables and bring in any additional props.
  • You may have a short 30 second presentation if you wish
  • Winners of the Creative and Abstract Runway classes will go forward for Creative Stylist of the Year but are not eligible for Best in Show.
  • Creative Classes will start at 13:15.  Please be on the table by 13:00 for pre-judging.  This competition highlights the extreme creativity of professional groomers.
  • Competitors may only use dyes that are non-toxic and manufactured for animal use and should be used prior to arrival.
  • Winners will be judged on their originality and creativity of design and theme and quality of styling technique.
  • Electric points will be made available to creative entrants.
  • Abstract Runway will start at 12:30.  Please be in the ring ready.  The class is designed to show the beauty of a simple, abstract design scissored, clipped or handstripped into the coat and devoid of props, costumes, accessories etc.  Minimal colour and added "bling" (glitter, body jewels etc.) if any, is permitted but should not detract from the overall finish.  These designs are to be completed prior to the competition and the class will be judged on the finished design only.  You may have someone else handle your dog for you should you not get into the ring on time due to other class commitments.  Please inform the judge's steward prior to the start of the class.

Spectator (no entry to talks or demo's): FREE

Delegate (entry to show, all demo's and talks): £30 pre-booked; £35 on the door - Closing date for pre booked 7th June

Competitors (including Creative): £30 per class pre booked only - Closing date 3rd June

Abstract Runway £10 pre booked only - Closing date 3rd June

Tickets cannot be refunded unless the event is cancelled

COMPETITION RULES:

  • Please let the judges know of any problems with your dog before the start of your class
  • Please treat your dogs with respect. If the judges consider a dog is being mishandled, a warning will be given. A second warning will result in disqualification
  • Competitors should not trim their dogs after the classes have finished, unless you have permission from all the judges.
  • All classes will start promptly. Any late arrivals may still compete but will not be allowed any extra time. Please report to the competitor stewards before entering the competition area.
  • JUDGES' DECISION IS FINAL

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

  • You will need at least 6 weeks growth to showcase your skills. Judging is based on degree of difficulty and level of work.
  • You will need to provide your dog bathed and prepared with ears, nails, groin and pads already attended to.
  • Poodle face, feet and tail are preclipped before the class.
  • You need to bring your own equipment and table.
  • No electric provision is made by the show organisers so please bring cordless clippers.
  • Products and dyes may be used but only if they are deemed safe for animal use.
  • Please bring holding crates for your competition dogs.
  • Please do not bring dogs not entered into the competition.
  • All competitors are ultimately responsible for their own dogs so please make sure that dogs are kept watered and exercised and don't forget to clean up after your dog! We recommend that you bring a helper to assist you throughout the day.
  • Remember that competitor stewards are around to help you so don't be afraid to ask.
